With a sorbitol intolerance
(Intolerance = intolerance, also sorbitol malabsorption)
digestive problems arise such as abdominal pain and cramps (abdominal complaints), flatulence, diarrhea or nausea.
Here sorbitol (= a sugar alcohol) is poorly tolerated,
because sorbitol is insufficiently absorbed in the small intestine and thus reaches deeper sections of the intestine, which causes the symptoms.

Sorbitol is naturally found in many fruits.

The food industry uses sorbitol as a sweetener and also as a carrier or humectant.

(Tip: check the list of ingredients)

Diagnosis: Gold standard H2 breath test

If sorbitol is intolerant, there is usually also a fructose intolerance.

Sorbitol malabsorption is incurable. However, if you stick to a low-sorbitan or sobitol-free diet, the symptoms can be reduced to a minimum. The intolerance does not damage the intestines or other organs.  Tablets also often contain sorbitol. In the case of hereditary fructose intolerance, those affected should therefore carefully study the package insert for drugs and food supplements and check what the tablets are made of. It should be noted that prescribed medication should not be discontinued without authorization, but only in consultation with the doctor. Your doctor can help find alternatives.

Why is nutritional therapy important?

Nutritional therapy supports you in  To reduce your complaints to a minimum or to resolve them completely.

You will learn which foods you can safely eat.

The aim is to supply all of the fatty acids, micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) that are important to you, energy and protein in the measure that your body is optimally supplied with. For this purpose, foods that promote inflammation are specifically avoided and plenty of anti-inflammatory foods are consumed. Weight reduction is recommended if you are overweight / obese. An anti-inflammatory diet can improve the state of health.

Classification of your weight - definition and classification of weight in relation to height.

Special percentile curves apply to children and adolescents; the BMI cannot simply be used here.

Underweight: <18.5

Normal weight: 18.5 - 24.9

Overweight = pre-obesity: 25-29.9

Obesity grade I: 30 - 34.9

Obesity grade II: 35-39.9

Obesity grade III:> 40 = per magna
