Psoriasis ( Greek psora (itching) or psoriasis) is a non-contagious, chronic skin and joint disease (psoriatic arthritis). It is triggered by various factors. Genetic predisposition plays an important role in this. Symptoms: Dandruff and an inflamed red skin & or joint pain. In Germany, around 2 - 3 million people are affected.
See also psoriatic arthritis (PSA). It is a chronic, relapsing seronegative joint inflammation associated with psoriasis vulgaris
with skin and joint inflammation.
Why is nutritional therapy important?
Nutritional therapy supports you in reducing inflammatory processes on the skin and / or in the joints through an anti-inflammatory diet. For this purpose, foods that promote inflammation are specifically avoided and plenty of anti-inflammatory foods are consumed. Weight reduction is recommended if you are overweight / obese. An anti-inflammatory diet can reduce pain and improve health.
An energy-adjusted wholesome diet under the supervision of a certified nutritionist can lead to your long-term success. The diet is adapted to your current weight and a jointly defined goal for weight gain / or loss. The aim is to supply all of the fatty acids, micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) that are important to you, energy and protein in the measure that your body is optimally supplied with. For this purpose, foods that promote inflammation are specifically avoided and plenty of anti-inflammatory foods are consumed.
2-4 times increased risk of other diseases in addition to the underlying disease:
Cardiovascular system, such as high blood pressure, atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), heart attack and stroke, as well as metabolic diseases such as obesity, diabetes (diabetes) and lipid metabolism disorders.
The relationship between diet and psoriasis is made through the importance of:
- pro-inflammatory substances (= inflammatory mediators)
- and anti-inflammatory substances (= anti-inflammatory mediators) play a role
- Reduction of inflammatory food ingredients
- while increasing the amount of anti-inflammatory food ingredients
- make sure you have a sufficient supply of vitamin D.
It is advisable to have your Omega 3 index checked regularly.
This provides information about the supply of valuable omega 3 fatty acids (alpha-linolenic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid), which can significantly counteract inflammatory processes in the body.
