Diarrhea is defined as> 3 bowel movements per day in adults and> 5 bowel movements in infants.

A distinction is made between 2 forms:

1) Acute diarrhea (sudden onset, lasts a few days)

2) Chronic diarrhea (duration:> 4 weeks at a time, recurring)

Causes:

›Acute diarrhea:

›Too much: unripe fruit / cold / fatty / alcohol

›Gastrointestinal infections

›LM intoxications

›Medication (e.g. aspirin)

›Chronic diarrhea:

›Malabsorption syndromes (lactose, fructose, gluten), pancreatic insufficiency, food allergies ...

Why is nutritional therapy important?

The nutritional therapy helps you to alleviate the symptoms, to strengthen the consistency of the bowel movements,  To supply you with sufficient electrolytes (= minerals sodium and potassium) so that your circulation remains stable.

Diarrhea is often associated with abdominal complaints such as abdominal pain, malaise and a feeling of fullness.

Nutritional therapy support through:

Spasmolytic teas (have an antispasmodic effect)

carminative teas (have a flatulence-inducing effect)

Acute diarrhea: Symptomatic therapy:

1. Oral rehydration: 1-2 days, goal: fluid and electrolyte replacement:

2. Individual diet for realimentation (1-2 days): Constipating foods

3.Diet with malassimilation: low-fiber diet (max. 10-15 g fiber per day)

4. Diet structure for light whole food and finally whole food (> 30 g fiber per day)

Classification of your weight - definition and classification of weight in relation to height.

Underweight: <18.5

Normal weight: 18.5 - 24.9

Overweight = pre-obesity: 25-29.9

Obesity grade I: 30 - 34.9

Obesity grade II: 35-39.9

Obesity grade III:> 40 = per magna
